About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of 500+ small business clients, including LLCs and sole proprietors
  • Provide proactive tax compliance advice to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Communicate with clients regularly by phone and video via Google Meet
  • Provide personalized guidance and build professional client relationships
  • Manage client information, schedule appointments, and document client interactions and advice in the proprietary 1-800Accountant portal
  • Assist with preparation and review of tax returns for small businesses and individuals
  • Collaborate with Bookkeeping and Payroll departments to provide coordinated financial services
  • Take on additional tasks and projects to support team objectives and client needs
  • Manage difficult client interactions professionally and empathetically
  • Research tax or accounting questions outside immediate knowledge

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN), which must be maintained
  • Proven experience preparing individual and small business tax returns
  • Experience with Schedule C, 1120, 1120S, and 1065 returns
  • Experience utilizing professional tax preparation software
  • Ability to quickly learn and master new software systems, including internal portals and communication tools such as Google Workspace and Vonage
  • Proven history of successfully working in a remote environment
  • Ability to maintain focus, manage distractions, and stay engaged independently
  • Exceptional situational judgment
  • Ability to manage difficult client interactions with professionalism and empathy
  • Proactive problem-solving approach for tax or accounting questions
  • Ability to identify appropriate research resources
  • Cross-collaborative mindset and willingness to support teammates and other departments
  • Availability for PST business hours, e.g. 9:00 AM–6:00 PM PST / 12:00 PM–9:00 PM EST
  • Ability to work a minimum of 55 hours per week during peak tax season
  • Must work from one of the approved states; working while traveling to other states or countries is not permitted
  • Candidate must provide their own computer; company uses Venn to create a protected workspace on the personal device
