About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain, modify, and optimize custom legacy application code written in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and Control Language (CL)
  • Investigate and troubleshoot operational bugs, batch run anomalies, and user-reported system issues
  • Update application logic for regulatory changes, licensing requirements, and agency business process updates
  • Coordinate with the hosting provider on system maintenance, OS patching schedules, database utilities, and environmental adjustments
  • Manage application-level security configurations, including user profiles and object-level authority
  • Verify system audit logs (QAUDJRN) to maintain system integrity
  • Manage local job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job schedulers
  • Coordinate with storage and backup operations teams on application backup windows, disaster recovery testing, and restoration verifications
  • Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases, including SQL queries and indexes
  • Support secure automated file transfers and interfaces between the hosted AS400 partition and downstream state, regional, or partner systems
  • Extract, clean, and archive legacy tables with state database administrators and cloud architects
  • Document system flows, database schemas, and interdependencies for migration of legacy business logic to modern cloud systems
  • Serve as technical liaison to Ensono for environment-level modifications
  • Assist state IT leadership with database extraction, legacy business logic documentation, cloud migration, and data archiving initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in AS400 (IBM i, iSeries) application development and support
  • Exceptional proficiency in RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, and SQL on DB2 for i
  • Prior experience working in a hosted/managed AS400 environment
  • Experience collaborating with external hosting providers such as Ensono to resolve infrastructure or environmental issues
  • Proven experience in IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, application security, and user profile management
  • Strong background in file transfer automation (FTP, SFTP) and managing external integrations
  • Candidates must be local to Oklahoma City or willing to relocate
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check as required by State of Oklahoma IT security standards
  • Direct experience assisting in legacy-to-cloud migrations or data warehousing extractions is nice-to-have
  • Familiarity with Rational Developer for i (RDi) is nice-to-have
  • Prior experience working in public sector environments or supporting insurance regulatory systems is nice-to-have
