Key responsibilities & impact

Own the company's overall accounting function and financial reporting strategy, delegating execution of the close process to the Accounting Manager while retaining final accountability for accuracy and timeliness
Build and lead the accounting organization; hire, develop, and manage the Accounting Manager and broader accounting team
Set technical accounting policy for complex semiconductor-business areas, including revenue recognition, standard costing, inventory valuation, and R&D and mask/tooling costs
Design the internal control framework and risk management strategy, anticipating future SOX readiness
Lead technical accounting research and draft formal position papers for unusual or judgment-intensive transactions
Own the external audit relationship, including scope and fee negotiations, audit committee/board relationship, and resolution of technical disputes
Partner with the CFO on fundraising due diligence, cap table and equity accounting, banking/credit facility negotiations, and investor and board reporting
Own tax strategy with outside advisors, including R&D tax credits, multi-state nexus, and future-growth structuring
Lead evaluation, selection, and implementation of ERP and financial systems
Develop and present financial reporting packages, KPIs, and technical accounting memos to the CFO, board, and investors
Assess accounting and reporting implications of strategic transactions, including M&A, new product lines, and international expansion
Establish company-wide accounting policies and a formal delegation-of-authority framework

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
8-10+ years of progressive accounting experience
At least 3+ years managing a team and owning the audit relationship
Deep technical GAAP expertise, including revenue recognition, inventory/cost accounting, and complex or judgment-intensive transactions
Experience designing and scaling an internal control environment, ideally with exposure to SOX readiness
Extensive hands-on experience with QuickBooks and ability to evaluate and lead migration to a more robust ERP such as NetSuite
Experience supporting fundraising, board reporting, or investor due diligence
Ability to research and formally document positions on novel or complex accounting issues
Strong executive presence; comfortable presenting to the CFO, board, and investors
Preferred: public accounting background, including Big 4 or regional firm
Preferred: experience in semiconductor, hardware, or engineering/design manufacturing industries, including standard costing and inventory reserve methodology
Preferred: experience with R&D tax credits, government/DOE grant accounting, or export-control-adjacent finance functions
Preferred: prior experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader at a venture-backed startup
Preferred: experience leading an ERP implementation or system conversion
