About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Join deal teams to help win new engagements by proposing architectures, shaping scope, sequencing work, and recommending staffing
- Remain a trusted technical presence for important accounts after work begins
- Represent 8th Light and build market relationships through talks, writing, and in-person events
- Shape and sharpen service offerings based on market insights
- Help identify and build relationships with platform and AI partners
- Drive go-to-market direction, including where to show up, what to say, and which opportunities to pursue
- Serve as a benchmark and mentor for other technologists
- Advise on technical job standards and career pathing
- Lead through influence initially without direct reports, with potential to lead a small team as the company grows
- Report to the CEO and collaborate with the CEO, VP of Growth, practice Partners, and senior technologists
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years in custom software consultancies
- Experience helping win work and delivering engagements
- Ability to pitch clients honestly and stand behind commitments
- Strong technical and commercial fluency
- Current, hands-on technical judgment and knowledge
- Ability to lead by influence rather than authority
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to connect ideas across a wide range of subjects
- Ability to bring out people’s best work through interpersonal connection and high standards
- Public technical presence through talks, writing, or community leadership
- Track record of pitching and winning enterprise engagements inside a consultancy
- Experience shaping service offerings or a firm’s technical point of view
- Relationships with cloud or AI platform partners
- Working grasp of AI and agentic tooling
- Experience mentoring senior technical talent
- Regular but not frequent travel availability
