About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of charity and not-for-profit clients
  • Act as the primary day-to-day client contact and maintain stakeholder, trustee, and senior management relationships
  • Lead audit engagements from planning through completion and final sign-off
  • Review audit files and financial statements for accounting and auditing standards compliance
  • Manage audit budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
  • Identify and address audit risks and provide recommendations
  • Provide technical guidance on charity accounting, reporting, and governance
  • Support complex accounting and compliance matters and resolve technical audit issues
  • Lead, coach, and develop Audit Seniors, Auditors, and Trainees
  • Review junior team members' work and provide feedback
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and talent development
  • Identify business development opportunities and support proposals, tenders, presentations, networking, and sector initiatives
  • Collaborate across audit, tax, and advisory service lines to deliver integrated client solutions
  • Ensure internal quality control and risk management compliance
  • Monitor engagement profitability and utilisation
  • Support continuous improvement across audit processes and client service delivery
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • ACA, ACCA, ICAS or equivalent professional qualification
  • Significant external audit experience gained within practice
  • Experience working with charities, not-for-profit organisations, educational institutions or social enterprises
  • Knowledge of Charity SORP and sector-specific reporting requirements
  • Previous experience managing audit assignments and client relationships
  • Strong understanding of audit methodology, financial reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach
