About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Visit work sites to collect information and assist with determining scope for low- to moderate-complexity additions and modifications to company gas and/or electric facilities
Meet with customers to identify design limitations and customer requests
Prepare service orders, field memos and light construction work orders
Produce safe, reliable and cost-effective designs conforming to company policies, safety orders and CPUC regulations
Apply design and engineering principles, distribution practices, CPUC Rules, gas and electric theory and construction calculations
Identify site-specific obstacles and communicate them to customers
Present design options for consideration
Report and provide advice and recommendations on scope identification, customer communication, regulations and standards
Collaborate with project team members and customers on compliant designs
Substitute in project meetings for the Project Manager or Project Designer when needed
Manage design files and design comments and iterations

Requirements

What you’ll need

2 to 4 years of experience working on utility distribution system projects
Required proficiency in AutoCAD, Geographical Information Systems, MS Office applications, Smartsheet, SAP and web-based applications
Designer experience (Overhead, Underground, or Gas)
Knowledge of design and engineering principles, overhead and underground distribution, CPUC Rules, gas and electric theory, standard practices and construction calculations
Ability to develop compliant designs according to appropriate standards
Ability to communicate design approaches and decisions effectively
Moderate experience working with designers, planners and project managers on design matters
Ability to manage design files and organize design comments and iterations
