About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the day-to-day operation, performance, and reliability of ACLED's Drupal-based website and associated web properties
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including bug fixes, plugin and module updates, security patches, and CMS configuration
  • Perform minor frontend customizations and fixes within Drupal's theming and module layer
  • Monitor site performance, uptime, and Core Web Vitals; proactively address issues
  • Manage version control, staging environments, and deployment processes
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, security protocols, and front-end performance best practices
  • Develop and maintain ACLED's overall SEO strategy
  • Conduct site health audits and competitive analysis
  • Oversee ongoing SEO monitoring, technical SEO, and keyword tracking
  • Produce regular web performance reports and respond to ad hoc analytics requests
  • Manage analytics platforms and define meaningful metrics
  • Serve as primary point of contact for web-related requests; triage, prioritize, and coordinate delivery
  • Triage feature requests, improvement proposals, and bug reports
  • Coordinate and contribute to ad hoc web-related projects
  • Collaborate with Data Science, Development, Analysis, and External Affairs teams to translate organizational needs into web deliverables
  • Directly supervise the Digital Officer, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development support
  • Contribute to recruitment and onboarding of web team members
  • Support colleagues in using the CMS and web tools effectively

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, information systems, digital media, communications, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing or coordinating a content-driven website, including hands-on technical work
  • Strong working experience with Drupal CMS (site building, configuration, module management, theming, and troubleshooting)
  • Strong working experience with PHP
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and web standards
  • Experience with SEO strategy and tools (e.g. Google Search Console, Semrush, Screaming Frog, or similar)
  • Experience with web analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, Looker, or similar)
  • Familiarity with web performance optimization, accessibility standards (WCAG), and security best practices
  • Experience with version control (Git) and deployment workflows
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience supervising or mentoring at least one team member
  • Preferred: Experience with JavaScript and/or front-end frameworks (e.g. React) for web tool development
  • Preferred: Familiarity with third-party platform integrations, including authentication flows, API connections, embedded forms, and tracking
  • Preferred: Experience with ContentSquare/Hotjar for UX monitoring and testing
  • Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and hosting infrastructure (e.g. cloud platforms, CDNs)
  • Preferred: Experience with CRM or marketing automation platforms
  • Preferred: Experience in a mission-driven, research, or data-focused organization
