About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Join critical Reproductive Freedom Project case teams
- Work on cases challenging abortion bans and restrictions using novel state constitutional provisions
- Help combat efforts to restrict access to medication abortion
- Work on novel cases expanding birth equity
- Conduct legal research and analysis
- Aid in drafting memoranda, motions, declarations, and legal pleadings
- Provide general assistance on active litigation, including cite-checking
- Support development of new litigation projects
- Conduct fact development and background research
- Track and analyze bills
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must currently be matriculated as a legal student and be based in the U.S. for the entire internship
- Must have completed at least one year of law school before the internship commences
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Ability to conduct complex legal analysis
- Strong oral communication skills and ability to explain complicated legal issues
- Ability to balance multiple assignments, communicate with colleagues, and accept and incorporate feedback
- Collaborative attitude and ability to work as a team player
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil rights and liberties, and social justice
- Lawful authorization to work for stipend eligibility
- Commitment to advancing the ACLU mission and to equity, inclusion, belonging, diversity, and respectful collaboration
Benefits
Comp & perks- Stipend of $24/hour for legal interns who are lawfully authorized to work
- Partial stipend for students receiving outside funding, bringing total funding up to the ACLU’s stipend amount
