About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Voting Rights Project team in litigation and other forms of advocacy
- Conduct legal research and analysis for new and active litigation projects
- Assist in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs
- Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials
- Support ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys
- Potentially work with clients and participate in outreach with impacted communities, discovery, and trial practice
- Contribute to election protection, redistricting, voter suppression, census, and voting rights litigation matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must currently be matriculated legal students and based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
- Law school students who have completed their 1L year or students in an LLM program
- Excellent internet and legal database research skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and excellent organizing and time-management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Initiative to see projects through to completion
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding
- Lawful authorization to work for stipend eligibility
- Cover letter discussing qualifications and commitment to racial and social justice
- Legal writing sample may be requested if selected for an interview; optional submission alongside cover letter
