About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform inspections, audits, and monitoring of contractor performance
- Plan, direct, and coordinate assigned tree clearance crews
- Serve as liaison between clients, tree crews, customers, client representatives, and the Operations Manager
- Resolve field obstacles and manage time and expenses to support safe, efficient, timely, and productive work
- Manage day-to-day activities, verify work scope and equipment use, and maintain documentation
- Support new business and reconstruction work requested by Energy Delivery
- Approve field scheduling and scope changes with PG&E representative approval
- Promote public, contractor, and employee safety; perform and document Safety Observations and Good Catches
- Audit VMI work for standards compliance and perform Quality Check audits focused on field compliance and data integrity
- Assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors
- Support the PG&E Work Verification team
- Maintain working relationships with public agencies and PG&E tree contractors, including support for escalated customer complaints
- Patrol distribution and transmission circuits; prescribe tree pruning, removal, and clearance work
- Determine trim timing and whether trimming or removal is necessary by assessing tree failure likelihood and hazards
- Complete vegetation management compliance tags and maintain compliance with PG&E standards, permits, and applicable laws
- Use computers, run reports, and update PG&E VMDSRs and mapping documentation
- Assist with outage, fire, incident, and customer claims investigations
- Support the local Divisional Operational Emergency Center as Vegetation Resource Coordinator when required
- Respond to emergencies in accordance with safety requirements, laws, regulations, and labor agreements
- Identify and notify PG&E of newly identified Idle and Private Lines
- Perform other work directed by the PG&E representative or PG&E standards and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED
- Class C driver’s license required and must be maintained
- One of the following experience paths: five years as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with at least two years of line clearance certification; five years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist; five years as a Registered Professional Forester; five years as a Utility Inspector or higher classification with at least one year of vegetation management experience; or four years of military service with honorable discharge and at least one additional year of vegetation management inspection experience plus PG&E Representative approval
- Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates
- Experience with data collection devices and GIS software desired
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work varied and rugged terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules, including nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to read and follow maps
- Ability to learn and use company- or job-specific software systems
- OSHA 30-hour construction safety overview, completed within six months of start date
- CTSP or Certified Arborist (CA) from the International Society of Arboriculture with TRAQ certificate, completed within six months of test eligibility
- 911 Standby training, QA/QC working knowledge, and computer training, completed within one month of start date
- Must successfully complete all required training
- Position is safety-sensitive; hires are subject to PG&E representative approval
Benefits
Comp & perks- $13.22 per hour in lieu of benefits for every eligible hour worked
- $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked in excess of 4 hours
