About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a team of talented engineers
- Drive prioritization and delivery management to ensure high-impact, predictable delivery
- Create a collaborative, autonomous, inclusive, innovative, and transparent work environment
- Mentor team members through knowledge sharing, code reviews, design document reviews, technical talks, and timely feedback
- Maintain high code quality, automated testing, and engineering best practices
- Execute organizational standards for security, quality, observability, and clean code
- Support legacy and modern cloud services and applications and deploy them through CI/CD
- Contribute to architecture decisions, review code, and write code when needed
- Champion AI-first engineering practices and adoption of AI tooling and agentic development workflows
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, Engineering Managers, and cross-functional teams
- Identify and promote opportunities to improve engineering productivity
- Partner with the People Team to hire high-caliber candidates from diverse backgrounds
- Maintain flexible working hours with daily overlap with Chicago timezone, including afternoon meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience
- Strong software development background building and deploying scalable cloud applications using CI/CD practices
- Production experience in PHP
- Solid database experience with SQL, NoSQL, and event streaming technologies
- Proven ability to drive prioritization, delivery cadence, and execution rigor across a team
- Experience solving challenging technical problems at scale
- Strong communication skills and customer focus
- Fluent in English (B2 minimum)
- Willingness to work flexible hours with regular afternoon availability to overlap with US Central timezone
- Experience leading teams through AI/ML adoption or integrating agentic workflows into engineering practices (nice to have)
- Experience with organizational scaling (nice to have)
- Track record of cross-timezone collaboration in distributed engineering organizations (nice to have)
- Python or Java experience (nice to have)
