About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Carry out individualized treatment plans under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist
- Provide therapeutic exercise and functional activities
- Work on strength, balance, gait, transfers and endurance
- Help patients improve bed mobility and functional movement
- Provide gait training and assistive-device education
- Work on fall-prevention and safety strategies
- Monitor patients' response to treatment
- Communicate progress and changes to the supervising Physical Therapist
- Educate patients, families and caregivers
- Collaborate with PT, OT, SLP, nursing and other care-team members
- Complete accurate and timely documentation
- Encourage patients throughout rehabilitation
- Help patients recovering from hospitalization, surgery, illness, injury, weakness, falls or functional decline achieve greater independence and, when possible, transition safely home
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current or eligible Virginia Physical Therapist Assistant license
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a Physical Therapist and interdisciplinary team
- Skilled nursing, geriatric or rehabilitation experience is a plus, but not required
- New graduate PTAs are encouraged to apply
- Genuine interest in helping people improve
- Ability to provide hands-on patient care in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting
