About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, manage, and execute state and federal ballot measure, public education, and advocacy campaigns
  • Coordinate advocacy strategy across policy, lobbying, organizing, and elections departments
  • Serve as key external contact and thought partner to LGBTQ+ movement partner organizations
  • Develop a strategic ballot strategy addressing urgent state-level ballot measures affecting transgender people
  • Manage, cultivate, and inspire the Organizing Director and other staff leaders
  • Support the transition from mobilization techniques to deeper field organizing work
  • Oversee engagement and training of transgender candidates, GOTV education, and other electoral engagement
  • Represent A4TE in state-focused ballot measure coalition work and leadership committees
  • Assess priority campaigns and recommend organizational priorities and investments
  • Develop and implement campaign strategies and advise organizational partners
  • Coordinate A4TE’s cross-team campaign engagement and keep the team apprised of developments
  • Work with consultants, lobbyists, organizational partners, and state and local leaders to defeat discriminatory anti-trans ballot measures
  • Manage, support, and ensure accountability of campaign consultants
  • Collaborate with Organizing, State Policy, and Communications teams
  • Travel to campaign sites as needed
  • Coordinate delivery of messaging and research to legislative leaders, partners, constituencies, and allies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated management experience, including coaching team members using tested management techniques, emotional intelligence, and good judgment
  • Strong working knowledge of and demonstrated success at lobbying governmental and agency entities at the state or federal level
  • Working knowledge of ethics and legal compliance within government affairs
  • Strategic judgment for advancing complex government affairs strategies
  • Working knowledge of 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), PAC, and ballot legal compliance
  • Ability to support organizational compliance efforts alongside experts, partners, and/or legal counsel
  • Ability to implement complex and legally compliant ballot campaign activities and tasks
  • Strong working knowledge of politics within an overarching advocacy framework, including campaign cycles, partisanship, and politics’ role in moving the Overton Window
  • Direct experience in social justice, government, organizing, and/or movement building organizations
  • Deep and nuanced understanding of issues affecting transgender people and intersecting systems of oppression
  • Strong belief in A4TE’s mission and commitment to moving the Overton Window on trans issues
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with MS Office 365 and collaborative tools such as Slack, Asana, and Zoom
  • Experience with policy software such as PolicyNote, BillTracker50, or similar
  • Experience with organizing and campaign tools such as NGP VAN, EveryAction, or similar
  • Ability and willingness to travel to states where field and campaign organizing support is necessary
