About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide field and lab support to cultural resource projects throughout the US
- Perform archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and documentation
- Perform pedestrian walkovers, shovel test pit excavation, test unit and feature excavation, mapping, and site documentation
- Support Phase I, II, and III field and lab studies
- Work under the direction of Crew Chiefs, Field Director, and Principal Investigator
- Collaborate with technical field, lab, office, management, and administrative staff to meet AECOM quality standards
- Support supervisors with graphic support, writing, travel coordination, project and paperwork organization, and field equipment preparation
- Perform data entry, artifact labeling, and record copying for curation
- Perform manual labor, including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt
- Build or repair field and laboratory equipment as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to perform basic field excavation techniques
- Ability to process recovered archaeological artifacts (wash, catalog, and mark)
- Ability to properly complete field and laboratory forms
- Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs.
- Tolerance for outdoor environments, prolonged walking or standing, varied terrain, and a wide range of weather conditions
- BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education preferred
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Total Station, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and statistical analysis tools such as SAS or SPSS preferred
- Completion of a university-based archaeological field school preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Previous related internship experience preferred
- No current or future sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization
