About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers
- Select air/water-side cooling systems, including fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions
- Conduct internal and external computational fluid dynamics analyses to optimize airflow and system performance
- Prepare or direct preparation of CFD models and analyze results to recommend design modifications
- Coordinate design changes and resulting effects with other project trades
- Design redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems, including backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems
- Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for IT equipment, power density, anticipated growth, construction phasing, and facility administrative/common areas
- Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, including economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery systems, and airflow management
- Design filtration systems and air-quality monitoring mechanisms to protect IT equipment
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate HVAC with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other critical systems
- Work in a hands-on, client-facing role on fast-paced data center projects for global clients
- Collaborate with AECOM teams around the world
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation
- P.E. registration is required
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is typically required
- Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002
- Experience or knowledge of HVAC systems and energy management
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Current H1-B visa holders may be eligible for permanent residency sponsorship
- Preferred: master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management
- Preferred: CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation
