About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems for data centers
  • Select air/water-side cooling systems, including fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions
  • Conduct internal and external CFD simulations to optimize airflow, identify hotspots, and evaluate building- and campus-wide component effects
  • Prepare or direct preparation of CFD models, analyze results, and recommend design modifications
  • Coordinate design changes and their effects with other project trades
  • Design redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems, including backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems
  • Perform heat-load calculations and capacity planning based on IT equipment, power density, anticipated growth, and construction phasing
  • Perform HVAC loads for administrative and common facility areas
  • Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, including economizers, variable-speed drives, energy recovery, and airflow optimization
  • Design filtration and air-quality monitoring systems to protect sensitive IT equipment
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate HVAC with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other critical systems
  • Work hands-on with clients on high-profile, fast-paced data center projects
  • Collaborate with AECOM teams around the world

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation
  • P.E. registration is required
  • Experience or knowledge of data center, mission critical, and tech-sector requirements
  • Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is typically required
  • Professional certifications related to HVAC engineering, such as CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation, are advantageous
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Permanent residency sponsorship is available for current H1-B visa holders in the United States
