About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems for data centers
  • Select air/water-side cooling systems, including fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions
  • Conduct internal and external computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses
  • Prepare or direct preparation of CFD models, analyze results, and recommend design modifications
  • Coordinate design changes and resulting effects with other project trades
  • Design redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems with backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems
  • Perform heat-load calculations and capacity planning based on IT equipment, power density, anticipated growth, and construction phasing
  • Perform HVAC loads for administrative and common facility areas
  • Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, including economizers, variable-speed drives, energy recovery systems, and airflow optimization
  • Design filtration and air-quality monitoring systems to protect sensitive IT equipment
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate HVAC with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other critical systems
  • Work hands-on and client-facing on high-profile data center projects
  • Collaborate with global AECOM teams on data center projects for global clients

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation
  • P.E. registration is required
  • Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is typically required
  • Master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or LEED accreditation are advantageous
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Current H1-B visa holders may be eligible for permanent residency sponsorship
