Key responsibilities & impact

Manage a team of machine learning engineers building models that power credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia
Lead use of novel machine learning techniques and rich data representations to predict repayment behavior and optimize loan offers
Set the team's technical strategy and connect engineers to business-impacting underwriting projects
Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes
Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, risk, and engineering across the product development lifecycle
Ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are understood and managed
Mentor engineers, provide feedback and guidance, and lead by example
Partner with engineering, product, and risk leaders to design, implement, and scale advanced ML solutions
Contribute to Affirm's long-term machine learning strategy

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's in a technical field
8+ years of industry experience
3+ years managing engineers
Background in financial services, specifically credit/lending
Proficiency in machine learning, including tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML
Strong engineering skills
Ability to provide hands-on technical leadership with code and architecture
Comfort moving from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture
Ability to work through ambiguity
