About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead teams focused on integrations with partners, processors, and internationalization
Dramatically decrease the time required to integrate with external partners
Enable card launches as soon as Affirm launches in a new country
Partner with engineering leaders to shape engineering culture across Cards
Lead the adoption of AI while maintaining high quality standards
Collaborate with managers across the organization to create a psychologically safe team
Work with EU and US stakeholders to build scalable, reliable, and high-performing products
Shape best practices and guide architectural choices
Drive successful delivery of critical initiatives
Hire and grow engineering teams in Spain and Poland
Define technical direction, long-term technical roadmap, and strategic initiatives in Cards
Champion technical excellence alongside business results
Create and influence an ownership culture focused on scale and efficiency
Mentor and lead managers and engineers
Participate in the required on-call rotation

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of software engineering experience
5+ years managing engineering teams
2+ years managing managers
Experience leading a multi-team engineering organization through a multi-year technical strategy
Ability to break ambiguous requirements into deliverables that ship
Technical depth to guide architecture, reliability, and quality decisions across a portfolio of systems
Ability to make investment and prioritization decisions with incomplete consensus
Ability to explain strategy, risk, and tradeoffs to engineers, cross-functional partners, and executives
Experience growing managers into senior leaders
Experience building teams where diverse perspectives are included and valued on merit
Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Required participation in an on-call rotation
Must be based in Spain
