Key responsibilities & impact

Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery
Collaborate with product management, design and analytics during ideation and decision-making
Articulate technical constraints and assess risks and trade-offs
Create and monitor metrics for operational support and availability
Escalate issues when needed
Support keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
Participate in growth and development activities, including interviews
Build backend systems that validate consumer identity across Affirm products and satisfy regulatory protocols such as KYC
Partner with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud and engineering teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks
Familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
Ability to design solutions involving multiple software components
Ability to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
Ability to navigate a large code base and debug others' code
Experience providing code review feedback
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
