About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead projects and initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team
  • Build tools and systems that empower Affirm’s fraud-fighting capabilities
  • Work with cross-functional teams to adopt and monitor fraud decisioning systems
  • Use analytics and data-driven decisions to improve the performance and quality of fraud deciders
  • Plan and execute large, cross-functional initiatives, including project definition, technical specification, task breakdown, delivery, monitoring and maintenance
  • Create simple, elegant and maintainable system designs
  • Write high-quality, understandable code
  • Review others’ work and provide constructive feedback
  • Lead and mentor engineers and help them grow
  • Incorporate stakeholder needs and opinions and advocate for ideas and initiatives
  • Conduct technical and soft-skill evaluations for hiring decisions
  • Develop and review technical interview content and requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6-10+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities and experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Prior experience architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams
  • Technical leadership and team-building experience, including mentoring in software development best practices
  • Ability to synthesize complex business, product and technical requirements into high-quality system designs and software
  • Ability to architect systems and break business and product requirements into system modules or components
  • Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
