About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and connect it to critical, business-impacting projects
- Collaborate with product management, design and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes
- Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting and on-call efforts
- Set code review and design standards and advocate for them through writing and tech talks
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance and leading by example
- Lead complex, business-critical Trust and Safety Foundations initiatives
- Build and operate foundational systems and data capabilities supporting consumer risk understanding and credit reporting obligations
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems
- Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes
- Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution plans
- Ability to write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others
- Ability to work from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture
- Experience gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
