About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the technical vision and architecture for the entire rendering pipeline
- Make tradeoffs between visual fidelity, performance, and platform constraints
- Set the technical bar for global illumination, ray tracing, physically based shading, post-processing, and VFX integration
- Evaluate academic and industry research and translate relevant work into production-ready features
- Define material workflows, lighting standards, and asset pipelines with Art and Technical Art leadership
- Architect rendering pipelines for real-time interactive experiences across target platforms
- Design, implement, and optimize lighting, geometry, materials, shaders, and post-processing systems
- Represent the studio’s rendering technology perspective internally and externally
- Evaluate emerging APIs, hardware capabilities, and platform-specific rendering features
- Research, prototype, and implement advanced rendering techniques
- Contribute to engine-level tooling and editor workflows
- Build or extend rendering tools that help artists and designers iterate faster
- Partner with engineering, production, and creative leads to scope features and align priorities
- Communicate technical tradeoffs throughout the project lifecycle
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of professional experience in real-time rendering engineering within games, interactive entertainment, or a related field
- Strong portfolio of shipped titles or interactive experiences
- Experience owning rendering architecture end-to-end and making foundational technical decisions
- Deep expertise in graphics APIs including Vulkan, DirectX 12, Metal, or OpenGL
- Solid command of at least one major real-time engine such as Unreal Engine 5, including engine/renderer-level experience
- Mastery of C++ and shader languages including HLSL, GLSL, or WGSL
- Track record of writing and reviewing high-performance, maintainable, production-grade rendering code at scale
- Experience with physically based rendering, deferred rendering, temporal anti-aliasing, screen-space effects, and/or ray tracing
- Ability to architect advanced rendering systems from the ground up
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-engineering stakeholders
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
