About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead, coach, train and manage a team of approximately 8–10 accountants and bookkeepers
Own accounting processes end to end as the senior accounting authority
Write SOPs and set the team’s quality standards
Solve complex accounting issues involving leases, equity transactions, multi-currency and inventory
Provide support to the team, fractional CFOs and clients on complicated matters
Join client calls and explain issues in plain English
Collaborate with fractional CFOs to ensure books are clean enough for decision-making
Manage, coach and develop accountants and bookkeepers and assist with hiring
Review work before it reaches a CFO or client and provide direct feedback
Plan portfolio capacity and ensure deadlines are met
Run weekly accounting team meetings, clear blockers and address recurring problems
Own month-end close across all clients, accurately within two to ten business days
Sign off on close files, reconciliations and working papers
Set and enforce standards for fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals and deferred revenue
Lead variance reviews across Shopify, Amazon, wholesale revenue and expense lines
Coordinate year-end work with tax accountants and CPA firms
Maintain SOPs, checklists and the close calendar
Standardize charts of accounts, working paper templates, weekly flash reports and monthly packages
Implement automation and AI improvements with the AI team
Handle intercompany and multi-entity work, FX revaluation, inventory and COGS reconciliations, landed cost and year-end adjustments
Research and escalate sales tax, VAT and nexus questions across the US, UK and EU
Act as the senior accounting contact for clients and CFOs
Document client-call action items and flag risks early

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years in accounting
3+ years leading a team of accountants or bookkeepers and reviewing their work
Multi-client experience in public practice, an outsourced accounting or client accounting services firm, or a controller seat across several entities
Deep technical accounting: accrual-basis accounting, leases, equity transactions, deferred revenue, FX revaluation
Strong Xero and QuickBooks Online skills
Ecommerce accounting experience with Shopify, Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, and multi-currency
Record of building processes and SOPs that other people follow
Fluent business English, written and spoken
Comfortable on camera with clients
Ability to coach and empathize
Ability to be based anywhere in the world with enough overlap with North American business hours
CPA, CA or ACCA is nice to have
Audit, quality of earnings or due diligence experience is nice to have
Experience with NetSuite, A2X, Dext, Hubdoc, Bill.com, Rippling or Gusto is nice to have
Experience growing an accounting team is nice to have
