About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage syngas production activities safely and reliably while complying with regulatory requirements
- Manage costs effectively and develop direct reports’ skills and competencies
- Supervise day-to-day operations, maintenance, efficiency and process troubleshooting
- Develop and implement Management of Change processes
- Assist with environmental reporting and other duties delegated by the plant manager
- Operate Hydrogen/Syngas and ASU facilities safely and reliably
- Provide regulatory training and maintain documentation for direct reports
- Qualify new technicians and issue development plans and coaching when performance improvement is needed
- Report and investigate incidents; ensure Maximo work orders and corrective actions are completed
- Maintain safety standards and Life Safety systems
- Maintain updated red-line PIDs and ensure standard operating procedures are followed and updated
- Ensure accurate shift reports, effective shift turnovers and completed operating rounds
- Make plant/process decisions in the plant manager’s absence and perform advanced process troubleshooting using PI trending and spreadsheets
- Foster internal and external customer relationships and ensure required product quality and quantity
- Partner with the Maintenance Center on predictive/preventive maintenance, planned maintenance turnarounds and unexpected events
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure process safety and PSM requirements are met
- Support safety, reliability and efficiency planning and complete audit action items
- Ensure maintenance work is planned, scheduled and completed effectively
- Conduct annual performance reviews, implement development plans, and provide training/coaching
- Conduct annual lockout/tagout training for each employee
- Monitor and optimize operating costs within the authorized budget and identify cost-reduction opportunities
- Participate in capital planning and maintain a long-term capital improvement plan
- Work with the plant manager to develop the annual maintenance budget
- Partner with Corporate Supply Management and Field Sourcing Specialists to obtain best value for outsourced work and materials
- Act as plant manager during their absence
Requirements
What you’ll need- Two year associates degree in a technical field OR equivalent related operations experience required in lieu of a degree AND 10+ years technical knowledge and/or work experience and understanding of plant process
- Technical and working understanding of Partial Oxidation, syngas production and subsystems
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants, including Process Safety Management, OSHA regulations, Environmental Regulations and state and local requirements
- Solid foundation in technical fundamentals and operations to accept/apply/challenge external technical recommendations
- Trained in process safety elements and process safety management
- Knowledgeable and trained in root cause analysis
- Able to remotely access intranet and utilize internal systems such as Intelex, PI, Maximo® and Oracle
- Trainable on Distributed Process Control (DCS) operation and troubleshooting (Delta V, Foxboro, Triconex and PI)
- Able to deliver and explain training material to operating personnel
- Extremely organized; effective at time management
- Able to establish/maintain a plant filing system and control engineering documents; ability to read/red-line key operating documents
- Displays mechanical and electrical aptitude for equipment operation/troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of commercial agreements and Air Liquide customer relations
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills
- General understanding of accounting principles; working knowledge of plant operating budget
- Knowledgeable in general maintenance management processes/procedures including work management, planning and scheduling, PM/PdM compliance and TAR planning
- Knowledgeable in capital process including ACE submittal and simple economic analysis
- Ability to work extended hours/shift work as business needs dictate; on call nights, weekends, holidays as required
- Infrequent travel; typically 3-5 trips per year
