About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, for critical patients
- Establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport to the appropriate medical facility
- Provide nursing care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting facility
- Maintain thorough patient care documentation
- Maintain clinical competency through laboratory, clinical, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and continuing education training
- Use and maintain medical equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and ensure repairs
- Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support pilots with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities
- Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up, outreach marketing, and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
- Maintain regularly scheduled attendance; travel approximately 5% of the time
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Current PALS or equivalent certification when required by state or county
- Current TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification when required by state or county
- CFRN or CEN specialty certification required within 24 months of hire
- One of TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider training
- NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completion of third-rider training
- Weight not to exceed 225 pounds including an empty flight suit and boots
- Nursing skills within assigned state scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong critical thinking, reasoning, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and prioritization skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred but not required
- Pre-hospital experience preferred
- Flight experience is a plus, not required
