About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality nursing care, including assessment, triage, treatment, and patient documentation, from initial contact through transfer to the accepting facility
- Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport of critical patients
- Support multiple Clinical Flight Teams at bases in regions where currently licensed
- Maintain clinical competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
- Maintain documentation of licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures
- Manage aircraft equipment and supplies, report failures, coordinate repairs, and maintain onboard supplies
- Attend pre-mission briefings and debriefings, complete documentation, participate in checklists, and assist the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities
- Follow aviation safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings when needed
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
- Participate in patient follow-up, referring institution coordination, outreach marketing, and education activities
- Precept and/or participate in orientation of new employees and students
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
- Maintain availability for at least two 24-hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed
- Travel 85% of the time
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years, or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- One year of full-time flight nursing experience required
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice where Air Methods maintains CBS locations
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as required
- TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required by state or county
- Specialty certification (CFRN, CCRN, or CEN) required
- One approved advanced trauma certification: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course
- Current NRP certification
- NIMS Training: IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat
- Weight not exceeding 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Clinical skills within state scope of practice and advanced skills defined by Medical Director(s)
- Ability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
