About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage and treatment, from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting facility
- Safely transport critical patients to appropriate medical facilities while maintaining safety throughout the transport continuum
- Work as a travel clinician assigned to a base for 18 months on a rotating 14-days-on/14-days-off schedule with 24-hour shifts
- Maintain thorough patient-care documentation
- Maintain clinical competency, required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA/HIPAA training, clinical rotations and advanced procedures
- Operate and routinely maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies; report failures and maintain adequate onboard supplies
- Keep the aircraft clean and orderly for rapid response
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and pilot support, including radio, navigation and visual observation activities
- Conduct aircraft safety briefings and comply with safety standards
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced skills and procedures
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up, outreach marketing and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects and committees, including research and publishing opportunities
- Travel more than 50% and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Pre-hospital experience a plus
- Flight experience a plus for full-time travel nursing
- Must reside at least 3 hours’ drivetime from Harris, NY; additional requirements state greater than 4 hours from the assigned location
- Scheduling flexibility for up to 14-day assignments
- Weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice; New York State Nursing License required
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certifications when required by state or county
- Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN
- One approved advanced trauma course required before completion of third-rider orientation: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved course, with advanced skills lab
- NRP certification prior to completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts, overtime and on-call rotation
