About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, according to Air Methods CBS medical standards
- Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport to the appropriate facility
- Provide nursing care from initial contact until handoff to the accepting medical facility
- Maintain thorough patient care documentation
- Maintain clinical competency through laboratory, clinical, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA and continuing education training
- Operate and routinely maintain medical equipment and supplies; report failures and initiate repairs
- Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation and visual observation activities
- Comply with aviation safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up and outreach marketing and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students
- Participate in Air Methods CBS meetings, projects, committees, research and publishing opportunities
- Work 14 days on and 14 days off, assigned to a base for 18 months, with 24-hour shifts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Applicants must reside at least 3 hours, drivetime, from Harris, NY
- Must reside greater than 4 hours from the assigned location and provide scheduling flexibility to allow up to 14-day assignments
- Maintain flexibility of assigned base location, subject to change based on company need
- Weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice; NYS RN required
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certifications as required by state or county
- Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN
- One of TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider orientation, with advanced skills lab
- NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime and on-call rotation
- Indicate percentage of time spent traveling > 50%
