About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage and treatment
- Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport to the appropriate facility
- Provide nursing care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility
- Maintain thorough patient care documentation
- Maintain competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
- Maintain documentation of licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations and advanced procedures
- Operate and routinely maintain medical equipment and supplies
- Report equipment failures and initiate repairs as directed
- Maintain adequate onboard aircraft supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and assist the pilot with radio, navigation and visual observation activities
- Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel during specialty patient transports
- Perform advanced skills and procedures approved by Medical Director(s)
- Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up
- Participate in outreach marketing and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students as assigned
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects and committees, including research and publishing opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Pre-hospital experience a plus
- Flight experience a plus for full-time travel nursing
- Must reside greater than 4 hours from the assigned location and provide scheduling flexibility to allow up to 14-day assignments
- Must maintain a weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Skills required to practice nursing as defined by assigned state scope of practice
- Advanced practice skills as defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime and an on-call rotation
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certifications if required by state or county
- Specialty certification (CFRN, CCRN, or CEN) required
- One of TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course prior to completion of third-rider orientation
- NRP certification prior to completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Strong critical thinking, reasoning, attention to detail, prioritization and multitasking skills
