About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage and treatment, according to Air Methods CBS Medical Director standards
- Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport to the appropriate medical facility
- Provide nursing care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting facility
- Maintain thorough patient care documentation
- Maintain clinical competency through laboratory, clinical and continuing education experiences
- Maintain documentation of licenses, certifications, training, clinical rotations and advanced procedures
- Operate and routinely maintain medical equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and initiate repairs
- Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and pilot support, including radio, navigation and visual observation activities
- Comply with aviation and safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up, outreach marketing and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research and publishing opportunities
- Work a 14-days-on/14-days-off schedule with 24-hour shifts and travel exceeding 50%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Pre-hospital experience a plus
- Flight experience a plus for full-time travel nursing
- Must reside greater than 4 hours from the assigned location and provide scheduling flexibility to allow up to 14-day assignments
- Maintain flexibility of assigned base location, which will be determined based on need and subject to change
- Weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if state or county required
- Specialty certification (CFRN, CCRN, or CEN) required
- One of TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course prior to completion of third-rider orientation
- NRP certification prior to completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire
- Skills required to practice nursing under the assigned state scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime and an on-call rotation
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
