About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build the data foundation for Airbnb.org through data models, metrics, and dashboards
  • Design, build, and launch efficient, reliable, and maintainable data models and pipelines with Data Engineering
  • Design, define, implement, and document metrics and dimensions
  • Own data quality through testing, auditing, validation, incident response, and corrective actions
  • Identify, improve, or deprecate low-quality or duplicative data assets
  • Plan data quality improvements into the team roadmap
  • Design and develop dashboards and self-serve data products
  • Write technical designs covering benefits, risks, and tradeoffs
  • Seek and provide peer feedback on designs and code
  • Understand stakeholder needs across Marketing, Fundraising, Programs, Product, Data Science, and Engineering
  • Prioritize project work in alignment with Airbnb.org goals
  • Mentor and share knowledge with fellow data practitioners
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into metrics and data products

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field
  • Experience owning major data projects end to end, including loosely defined projects, from scoping and design through delivery
  • Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing queries on distributed data processing systems such as Spark, Presto, or Hive
  • Solid experience in dimensional data modeling, schema design, and metric definition
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for data work, such as Python
  • Experience with an ETL/orchestration framework like Airflow
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions and tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical partners
  • Ability to adapt to competing priorities
  • Proven ability to succeed in collaborative and independent work environments
  • Passion for high data quality, attention to detail, and an ownership mindset toward system reliability
  • Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity
  • Preferred: Minerva and Tableau skills, and an eye for design for dashboards and visualization tools
