About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner with product engineering areas as their security owner
Lead high-impact security initiatives from problem definition through measurable risk reduction
Identify and eliminate classes of application security vulnerabilities through scalable paved roads, guardrails, and tooling
Run threat models, design reviews, and code reviews for complex and high-risk systems
Set security requirements early in design and drive them through launch
Lead initiatives spanning multiple teams and influence engineering leaders and partner teams without direct authority
Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for the Application Security team
Mentor and coach security engineers and help onboard new team members
Educate and empower software engineers and foster security awareness
Investigate, prioritize, and drive resolution of complex and high-risk application security vulnerabilities

Requirements

What you’ll need

Deep understanding of web and mobile application security, including common vulnerabilities, attack vectors, and secure development practices
Subject matter expertise in at least one area such as authentication and authorization, API security, or mobile security
Hands-on software development experience, ideally with Java, JavaScript, Python, and Swift
Track record of shipping security tooling or paved-road solutions adopted by other engineers
Knowledge of ReactJS, Dropwizard, and GraphQL, including their security implications
Track record of leading security initiatives across multiple teams and delivering measurable risk reduction
Strong communication and leadership skills
Experience educating and empowering engineers to adopt security practices
Experience mentoring other security engineers
5+ years of experience in application security or a similar field
Strong focus on threat modeling, architecture reviews, and scalable security solutions
Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity
