About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, EHS, quality, and other stakeholders to develop construction and execution plans for facility, infrastructure, and capital projects.
- Oversee daily construction activities for assigned projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution by contractors, vendors, and internal resources.
- Manage project execution by monitoring schedules, work progress, resource requirements, and contractor performance.
- Ensure construction activities comply with company policies, site procedures, OSHA regulations, permit requirements, engineering standards, and applicable codes.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with project teams to resolve field issues, mitigate risks, and minimize operational disruptions.
- Develop bid and quote packages, conduct contractor walkdowns, participate in contractor selection, and facilitate scope reviews.
- Lead construction coordination meetings, contractor safety meetings, and daily work planning discussions.
- Monitor and inspect work in progress for compliance with project requirements, quality standards, and approved specifications.
- Develop and maintain construction schedules, daily reports, punch lists, action item logs, and project documentation.
- Track and communicate project status, risks, delays, resource constraints, budget impacts, and scope changes.
- Support project commissioning, startup, turnover, and closeout activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve construction execution, contractor performance, project delivery, and safety outcomes.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree in construction management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing construction, installation, and startup activities for industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, or engineering projects.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating contractors, managing project schedules, and overseeing construction execution from project planning through commissioning and startup.
- Working knowledge of industrial construction practices, safety regulations, engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Experience within an active manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food production, or chemical processing environment preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification or equivalent safety training preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or related project management credentials preferred.
- Experience managing capital projects, facility expansions, equipment installations, and infrastructure improvements preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, construction plans, project specifications, and engineering documents.
- Ability to interpret and coordinate multiple construction disciplines, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and controls systems.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as Microsoft Project or similar scheduling platforms.
- Thorough knowledge of construction safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards, including OSHA, NFPA, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems and construction practices across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and facility systems.
- Strong leadership and contractor management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex construction and project-related issues.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including managing schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and competing priorities.
- Strong understanding of construction safety programs and safe work practices.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hot work permitting, line break procedures, confined space entry, and other industrial safety requirements.
- Ability to manage construction activities in an active manufacturing environment while minimizing operational disruptions.
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour Construction certification preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain project schedules, monitor milestones, and drive project completion.
- Experience managing project budgets, contract administration, and change order processes.
- Ability to evaluate contractor performance and ensure compliance with project scope, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to lead project meetings and provide clear project status reporting to leadership.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced bio-chemical/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and follow safety requirements in hazardous areas.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive use of hands/arms/legs and eye/hand coordination for 6+ hours a day.
