About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own system design and implementation while guiding engineering and ensuring alignment with the broader architecture
Build proof of concepts to support design choices and recommend technologies
Work with product managers and product architects to inform product direction
Shape the engineering roadmap with product and engineering management and business stakeholders
Develop best practices, share knowledge, and mentor others
Collaborate with engineering teams in an Agile environment
Lead architecture and design of next-generation infrastructure services for Akamai's public cloud computing platform
Work embedded within engineering development teams as a core member of the Compute system architecture team

Requirements

What you’ll need

12 years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
Experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, and large-scale distributed production services
Experience with virtualization and cloud-native technologies, such as qemu, kvm, and Cilium
Advanced knowledge of operating systems, Linux internals, virtualization technologies, hypervisors, and performance optimization
Experience and solid understanding of containers and related technologies, including systemd, Docker, containerd, and Kubernetes
Significant experience with Linux, Go, Python, and Bash
Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS
Experience with one or more public cloud offerings
