About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and supporting infrastructure
Own production systems end to end, focusing on availability, performance, observability, and operational readiness
Build and maintain reliable ETL and data-processing pipelines for production workloads
Work with PostgreSQL and ClickHouse on data-intensive systems, including schema design, query performance, and data lifecycle needs
Develop and operate event-driven processing with Kafka and integrate it with backend services
Build and improve cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP using Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code
Improve deployment and operations through CI/CD, monitoring, and automation
Collaborate closely with partner teams
Build and operate backend systems and infrastructure supporting Akamai's security platform

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least 4 years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering in production environments
Backend engineering skills in one or more general-purpose languages
Experience building and operating production services
Experience designing distributed systems
Experience debugging complex performance and reliability issues
Hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including data modeling, schema design, query performance, migrations, and troubleshooting
Experience with ClickHouse and Kafka, or similar analytical database and event-streaming technologies
Experience building ETL or data-processing pipelines
Experience supporting analytics or Data Science workflows
Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code
