About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Direct and manage teams and programs responsible for network infrastructure planning, engineering, design, records accuracy, and lifecycle stewardship
- Own end-to-end Layer 1 network infrastructure planning and design, including outside plant facilities, inside plant infrastructure, fiber routes, ducts, conduits, structures, DC power, racks, capacity, records, and construction engineering
- Coordinate end-to-end infrastructure plans across Layer 2 and Layer 3 with IP Engineering leadership and network architects
- Translate business demand, network strategy, service delivery requirements, reliability objectives, and project commitments into infrastructure plans, budget inputs, engineering priorities, and implementation readiness
- Ensure Layer 1 plans support reliability, route diversity, resiliency, serviceability, maintainability, constructability, permitting readiness, and economic facility utilization
- Analyze facilities, route constraints, capacity exhaust, customer demand, traffic growth, and funded projects to determine construction, rearrangement, removal, or augmentation needs
- Develop and improve facilities records processes for complete, accurate, timely, and electronically accessible network records
- Partner with IP Engineering leadership and architects on site readiness, fiber availability, route diversity, physical constraints, equipment locations, and capital planning
- Facilitate decisions and escalations when Layer 1 constraints affect Layer 2/3 design, schedules, budgets, resiliency, or service delivery
- Develop budget inputs, capital forecasts, and business case support for network infrastructure projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Engineering, Business, or Construction; equivalent experience may be substituted for schooling on a year-for-year basis
- Twelve (12) years of telecommunications engineering/construction experience; equivalent education may be substituted for years of experience
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
- Demonstrated proficiency using OSP Insight and AutoCAD
- Ability to lead, influence, make decisions, plan, organize, measure, and coordinate multiple tasks
- Technical aptitude with complex technical topics and specialized information
