Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and inspire cybersecurity teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance
  • Direct and oversee cybersecurity managers and subject matter experts
  • Mentor and develop team members
  • Define and execute a multi-year cybersecurity strategy aligned with enterprise objectives, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations
  • Manage and support continuous assessment of the cybersecurity practice
  • Build relationships with senior executives, business leaders, and technology partners
  • Establish and maintain strategic external partnerships
  • Lead cybersecurity governance and enable risk-based decision-making
  • Oversee the cybersecurity practice to ensure risk remains within organizational tolerance
  • Lead the evolution of cybersecurity policies, standards, runbooks, and methodologies
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external standards, regulations, and audit expectations
  • Partner with business leaders and technology teams to manage dependencies and drive outcomes
  • Direct responses to critical and enterprise-wide cybersecurity incidents
  • Align with Enterprise Risk, Privacy, Legal, Human Resources, and other partners
  • Manage the cybersecurity portfolio, including governance, operations, risk management, and strategic planning
  • Drive operational impact in delivery performance, prioritization, risk mitigation, and value realization
  • Manage the cybersecurity portfolio budget and spend
  • Oversee the cybersecurity partner ecosystem
  • Monitor emerging threats, technologies, and regulatory changes
  • Prepare and deliver cybersecurity reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Represent Alberta Blue Cross on national committees and regulatory bodies
  • Drive improvements in cybersecurity risk management, resilience, audit closure, governance, awareness, and incident detection and response

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field
  • Advanced education or cybersecurity certifications are strong assets
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience
  • 5+ years overseeing enterprise cybersecurity portfolios
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and value realization
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
  • Strong strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Composure and leadership presence during high-intensity and critical cybersecurity events
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with ability to influence at all levels including executives
  • Demonstrated change leadership
  • Forward-looking, innovative, and adaptable mindset
  • Commitment to lifelong learning
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic environments and adapt to shifting priorities
