About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the efforts of division refrigeration in-house refrigeration mechanics
  • Provide ongoing training as new refrigeration equipment, materials, and processes become available
  • Direct in-house refrigeration mechanics and Authorized Service Providers in maintenance, leak-rate management, service, and repairs of refrigeration, HVAC, and EMS systems
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on specifications, design, scope, and bidding for HVAC and refrigeration projects
  • Standardize corporate objectives, policies, and procedures for in-house refrigeration maintenance programs
  • Manage day-to-day division-level refrigeration maintenance programs and up to 10 technicians across assigned districts or stores
  • Oversee HVACR maintenance, service, training, safety, and compliance programs
  • Establish best practices, processes, and procedures with other service area supervisors
  • Collaborate with coordinators, safety, and compliance teams on daily program and technician management
  • Provide recommendations and direction for pre-construction refrigeration surveys
  • Support the Energy Manager in improving system performance and reducing energy consumption and costs
  • Ensure proper refrigerant handling in compliance with federal, state, local, and company requirements
  • Coordinate equipment and material selection for remodel and upgrade projects
  • Manage the fleet of service trucks issued to in-house mechanics
  • Coordinate and approve outside vendor services supporting HVAC, refrigeration, and EMS
  • Identify, coordinate, and assign preventive maintenance, cleaning, and waste-reduction projects
  • Maintain compliance reporting and train mechanics on compliance procedures
  • Provide daily support and guidance for division refrigeration HVACR inquiries and issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College or Trade School Degree in a related field preferred and/or equivalent work experience in refrigeration, electrical, and facility maintenance
  • Must possess an EPA Section 608 Universal Certification
  • Thorough knowledge of refrigeration systems used in a supermarket environment
  • Knowledge of current refrigeration system controls, including ComTrol, Danfoss, CPC and others
  • Experience in HVAC maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to accept after-hours emergency calls when required
  • Leadership skills and ability to supervise others
  • Ability to motivate and work with others to achieve desired results
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle administrative duties and maintain mental alertness for accurate, safe, and thorough work
  • Ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions
  • Travel required, including occasional overnight travel
