About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Monitor, enforce, and support execution of the division merchandising plan in assigned stores
- Train, coach, oversee, and develop store teams within the department
- Travel to assigned stores and work with Department Managers and staff to meet sales, gross profit, and labor targets
- Counsel Department Managers and Store Directors on product merchandising and customer service
- Evaluate department presentation, cleanliness, compliance, and program execution
- Measure store-level performance through department sales, gross profit, and labor percentage
- Execute plans through store visits, reviewing results, and observing department conditions
- Determine training program success by reviewing and assessing evaluations
- Provide work guidance on product knowledge, sales and marketing techniques, profit and loss, and company policy compliance
- Train Department Managers on business fundamentals and department management
- Provide input to Store Directors on Department Manager performance
Requirements
What you’ll need- College degree or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years in grocery retail with a strong understanding across the assigned department
- Previous Department Manager and Store Director experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people in person and over the phone
- Marketing orientation
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Math skills to complete straightforward analysis
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate others without directly supervising
- Tech savvy; able to work with complex systems
- Collaborative work with cross-functional partners
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and formulas
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel division-wide, up to 70%
