About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and improve Aleph Alpha’s model training pipeline and infrastructure
- Optimize training-load scheduling on the cluster
- Improve pipeline robustness and performance to accelerate iteration
- Enable large-scale code execution for reinforcement learning
- Improve evaluation code to increase inference throughput
- Design high-quality tooling and infrastructure for long-term productivity
- Identify issues and take initiative to unblock the team
- Collaborate through pair programming, mob programming, and team-based design decisions
- Improve code maintainability through tests, design changes, and architecture changes
- Shape what training infrastructure and tooling gets built
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to dive into a codebase, change behavior as necessary, and leave the code better tested and easier to understand
- Understanding of low coupling and high cohesion
- Ability to incrementally refactor
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD), trunk-based development, continuous integration, and Domain Driven Design likely to be helpful
- Python experience is a plus
- Rust experience is a plus
- Kubernetes experience is a plus
- Ability to learn and strong engineering mindset
- Willingness to work on-site at least two days a week
- Willingness to relocate to Heidelberg or Berlin, if applicable
- Github profile required
