About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Formulate and execute Aligned’s global energy strategy
- Partner with utilities and customers to identify well-located, firm demand opportunities
- Advance public policy initiatives supporting load growth in core markets
- Collaborate with customers to establish and execute procurement strategies
- Negotiate commodities trading agreements, including ISDAs and EEIs
- Evaluate and execute long-term physical, financial, and renewable products, including PPAs, VPPAs, and RECs
- Formulate and negotiate electrical supply agreements and inducements with utilities
- Lead economic evaluation of cogeneration using natural gas or other technologies
- Support the economic viability and strategy of alternative energy solutions, including SMRs, hydrogen, multi-hour battery storage, and onsite diesel alternatives
- Support Aligned’s sustainability efforts
- Partner with the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership, Commercial/Sales, Strategy & Development, CTO, Platform Delivery, ESG, Legal, and Finance/Accounting
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years’ experience in the utility industry
- Experience in commodities trading or a support function of Risk, FP&A, Accounting, or Scheduling
- Experience with ICE, CME, NYMEX, and/or NGX exchanges and/or bilateral trading via ISDAs, EEIs, etc.
- Engineering experience with direct operational experience with generation assets, including coal, combined cycle gas, nuclear, wind, or solar
- Education in Engineering, Finance, or Accounting, with exceptions for 5+ years of experience in the energy industry
