About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the end-to-end accounting and reporting function for producer commission activity
  • Own monthly and interim producer commission calculations from data intake through final payment file
  • Prepare and distribute commission statements and calculations to producers
  • Maintain commission calculation models, schedules, and tools based on contract terms
  • Review new, amended, and acquired producer contracts and ensure commission terms are accurately reflected in systems
  • Work with Legal on contract interpretation questions, disputes, and commission-related amendments
  • Analyze commission expense trends, production levels, rates, payouts, and variances
  • Develop and maintain review procedures and documentation meeting audit and internal control requirements
  • Reconcile commission accruals and payables monthly
  • Implement process improvements and automation in commission workflows and accounting operations
  • Oversee financial reporting and month-end close processes
  • Prepare monthly commission reporting and analysis for the Divisional Controller and senior finance leaders
  • Lead commission integration activities related to acquisitions
  • Support internal and external audit requests
  • Collaborate with internal partners on accounting, reporting, and operational needs
  • Manage the Accounting team's daily activities and deadlines
  • Supervise, mentor, train, develop, and conduct performance reviews for staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive accounting experience
  • Insurance, financial services, or producer/broker-based industry experience
  • Experience with commissions, incentive compensation, or sales compensation accounting
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting contracts or commission agreements
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing organization and improving processes to support scale and efficiency
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated team management and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate directly with leadership
  • Ability to manage competing monthly deadlines
  • Ability to explain calculations clearly to producers and outside brokers and collaborate with Legal and Controllership
