About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide inpatient pain management consultations
- Manage acute and chronic pain conditions
- Support post-surgical care
- Practice independently as the sole pain Nurse Practitioner at United Hospital
- Engage in tele-pain consults at Allina's three metro hospitals
- Provide new patient consults and round on follow-up patients, with an average census of 10 to 14 patients per day
- Diagnose and treat illness
- Complete comprehensive patient assessments
- Order and interpret medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician
- Prescribe medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment
- Educate patients managing chronic illness or wellness care
- Refer patients for specialty care when appropriate
- Consult with physicians when needs exceed scope of practice or diagnosis/treatment is unclear
- Promote communication across interdisciplinary health care teams
- Act as a resource to team members
- Work with primary care team on program development
- Liaise with outside agencies as needed
- Consult and round on patients with hospital staff when designated by specialty
- Serve as educator, case manager and consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree
- Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
- Certified Nurse Practitioner - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
- Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification within specialty required upon hire
- ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
- Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
- Ability to lift up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently
- Ability to work a day shift, including occasional weekend rotation
