About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Screen newly diagnosed patients to identify those appropriate for financial navigation services
- Meet with patients to discuss insurance status, benefits coverage, expected treatment plans, and estimated treatment costs
- Evaluate patient qualifications for financial and copay assistance programs
- Coordinate completion of patient financial assistance program materials
- Serve as liaison between patients, medical teams, and assistance programs
- Maintain current demographic, insurance, and eligibility information
- Identify and evaluate ways to optimize patients' health insurance benefits
- Screen and monitor patients for risk of financial toxicity
- Assess need for referrals to social work, financial counseling, or outside agencies
- Educate colleagues and patient financial service representatives about financial navigation services
- Track and report key metrics to review financial navigation program success
- Maintain appropriate knowledge through internal and external educational opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years Healthcare Customer Service, Revenue Cycle or Healthcare Insurance experience
- Knowledge of related medical terminology and treatment processes
- Knowledge of payment alternatives, grants, programs, and other assistance types
- Ability to evaluate financial situations in accordance with regulatory compliance
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and dignity
- Ability to determine eligibility for financial assistance and payer/assistance sources
- Associate's or Vocational degree in Healthcare or Business related area of study (preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare or Business related area of study (preferred)
- Patient Accounts or Patient Access experience (preferred)
- Financial Counseling experience (preferred)
- Experience with clinic/hospital, patient guarantor accounts, billing, insurance, and charity care/financial discount programs (preferred)
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally
