  • Trace which costs are direct, allocated, or unallowable for the agency's funding mix
  • Review the agency's chart of accounts and allocation bases against the plan
  • Draft or update a central-service or indirect-cost plan the finance office can defend
  • Identify the documentation an auditor or cognizant agency would ask to see
  • Contribute methods and past-performance narrative to proposals only when naming is authorized
  • State the circulars, federal guides, or local policies used, and do not invent a rate

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience preparing or updating a cost-allocation plan or indirect-cost rate for a government or other public agency
  • Ability to explain the allocation base and which departments or funds were included
  • At least one plan or rate proposal you can describe by agency, year, and your role
  • Comfort reading a chart of accounts and a fund structure
  • Comfortable as a 1099 project-based collaborator, with occasional client travel
  • A negotiated indirect-cost rate agreement you supported (nice to have)
  • Experience with 2 CFR Part 200 or a state cognizant-agency review (nice to have)
