About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as interim HR lead, covering HR administration, employee and labor relations, leave and accommodation, recruitment, and onboarding
- Advise town managers, department heads, and supervisors on personnel matters, discipline, and performance management
- Administer collective bargaining agreements and support public-sector labor relations
- Assess HR functions and update personnel policies, procedures, and forms
- Deliver supervisor training
- Support recruitment of permanent HR leaders and hand off knowledge at transition
- Contribute qualifications and past-performance narrative to AlphaGov proposals when permissioned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience as a municipal HR director or senior HR leader for a town, city, county, or school district
- Working knowledge of Massachusetts or New England public-sector employment law, including collective bargaining (for example M.G.L. c.150E)
- Experience with public-sector unions and grievance and discipline processes
- Ability to provide regular on-site availability in Massachusetts or elsewhere in New England
- Comfortable as a 1099 / project-based collaborator
- Prior interim or fractional HR director engagements for municipalities (nice to have)
- Massachusetts civil service (c.31), Paid Family and Medical Leave, and Equal Pay Act experience (nice to have)
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or IPMA-SCP certification (nice to have)
- Classification and compensation or HRIS experience (nice to have)
