About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support projects ranging from small studies to multi-million-dollar turnkey solutions
  • Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for SCADA systems
  • Develop control system software designs
  • Develop control system software including PLC programming and HMI development
  • Develop interfaces to facility equipment using industrial control protocols including MODBUS TCP, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP
  • Apply closed loop controls methods to control continuously variable systems
  • Provide quality system processes such as checking the work of others, following standard procedures, and ensuring compliance to ISA, IEEE, NEC, and other codes and standards
  • Support hardware assembly and fabrication through panel shop testing
  • Perform light installation tasks on-site for commissioning efforts
  • Provide on-site team direction of facility startup, checkout, and commissioning activities, domestically and abroad
  • Communicate with clients and management regarding project status
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments
  • Estimate system design, material, installation, checkout, commissioning, and activation of projects
  • Plan labor resources and schedule project milestones
  • Develop proposals to capture future work with current clients and new markets
  • Lead SCADA projects through design, fabrication, implementation, testing, and commissioning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • US citizenship is required to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, and commissioning
  • Experienced PLC and HMI software developer in one of the major environments (for instance, Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, Emerson PC ME) with a working knowledge of the other environments
  • Experience selecting, specifying, and procuring process instrumentation and actuation hardware, control and data acquisition system hardware, PLCs, drive and motion systems, automation network hardware, interconnect cabling and supporting equipment
  • A solid math background to select and develop data uncertainty calculations, digital filter algorithms, control transfer function realizations, and process simulation
  • An ability to lead single and multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver technically successful control and data systems, often unique one-of-a-kind systems
  • Must train, encourage, and mentor junior colleagues
  • A desire to develop ingenious alternative approaches to challenges, and drive innovation during all phases of projects
  • PE license or ability to work toward PE (EIT)
