About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, oversee, and maintain robust security architectures for client ICT capabilities in line with Secure by Design
  • Align security architectures with the client's business strategy and technology goals
  • Translate business needs into security requirements
  • Identify, assess, and communicate current and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Perform or supervise risk analyses and security assessments, including ITHC
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend security technologies, tools, and solutions, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, EDR, SIEM, and SOAR
  • Define, implement, and maintain corporate security policies, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, legal requirements, and best practices
  • Develop incident response plans and coordinate detection, analysis, and response to security incidents and breaches
  • Communicate complex security concepts, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management
  • Support ICT system design activities for a UK defence project across diverse client programmes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree qualified in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down complex security challenges
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
  • 5 years’ experience as a Security Architect within UK Defence
  • Deep understanding of computer systems, networking, and cybersecurity principles
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and best practices
  • Ability to design and implement security architectures
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats and trends
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, and related security technologies
  • Experience of MOD security standards and principles, including JSP440, JSP453, and Secure by Design
  • Experience with NIST Cyber Security Framework and ISO 27001
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or NCSC Certified Cyber Professional (CCP) are desirable
