About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead development of Electrical designs and solutions across the full project lifecycle, from bid generation through concept and detailed design to installation and commissioning
- Prepare technical documentation, specifications and design justifications for safety-critical systems
- Support requirements capture and systems engineering approaches for new architectures
- Apply practical engineering design knowledge and ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements
- Manage and check junior engineers’ deliverables for compliance and quality
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers
- Interface with clients, regulators and project stakeholders on technical matters
- Ensure designs meet nuclear safety, cybersecurity and quality standards
- Support project planning, cost estimating and risk management
- Produce high-quality technical reports
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, partners and peers
- Support Amentum’s Energy business across nuclear, renewable energy and high-energy industrial projects
- Collaborate with Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, Operations Managers and colleagues across UK locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- MEng, MSc, BEng or BSc or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or another relevant discipline (listed as desirable)
- Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body (support available; listed as desirable)
- Awareness of civil nuclear plant systems, structures and components and associated design and assessment guidelines, or relevant engineering principles from other highly regulated industries
- Knowledge of HV systems, including 11kV switchboards, 20kV insulated phase busducts, generator circuit breakers, 20kV generators, power transformers, 400kV National Grid connections, Grid Code, 400kV switchgear and grid interface requirements
- Experience interfacing HV packages with wider EC&I infrastructure
- Ability to prepare specifications, datasheets and HV system drawings, including SLD, metering and protection drawings, and support layout drawings
- Understanding of Electrical System Analysis; ETAP beneficial but not mandatory
- Knowledge of EC&I principles, design tools, guidelines, standards and practices, including BS, IEC and IEEE standards, particularly IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 61513, IEC 61226 and ONR SAPs/TAGs
- Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of C&I systems, including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety- or process-critical I&C systems
- Ability to simplify complex problems
- Knowledge of high-integrity hardware- or software-based control systems for industrial equipment
- Knowledge of systems engineering and system conceptual design is desirable
- Strong communication and engagement skills
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams across different UK locations
